ALYSON SATTERWHITE ANNOUNCES RUN FOR
GAINESVILLE DISTRICT SCHOOL BOARD SEAT
GAINESVILLE, Va.—(March 3, 2011)—Alyson Satterwhite officially announces her candidacy to represent the Gainesville District on the Prince William County School Board to be decided in the general election to be held on Nov. 8, 2011.
“Education is my passion,” said Satterwhite. “Being a school board member is about representing my district in all aspects of education in order to provide the best possible outcome for our community. Education encompasses each and every student in the classroom, the parents, and the people of the county who support the schools. I want to serve the people of the Gainesville District and be able to make a difference in building a stronger, transparent, and more efficient education environment.”
On the topic of fiscal transparency, Satterwhite said: “The Prince William County Schools receive 56.75% of the total county revenue each year. The annual budget that is presented to the public and school board is at an executive level, but I believe we need to see more detail on how that money is actually being spent. We need to ensure that good stewardship follows such a high level of taxpayer financing.”
Satterwhite and her husband, Doug, married 24 years, are the proud parents of four children: Rachel, Rebekah, Matt and Mark. All of her children are or have been students in Prince William County Schools. After multiple tours with the United States Navy, and her husband Doug’s subsequent retirement after 20 years of service, the Satterwhites chose to become official residents of Gainesville, making it their permanent home. The Satterwhites served two tours of duty in the Washington, D.C. area where they made Gainesville their home before permanently settling in Gainesville.
Always an active participant in her children’s schools, Satterwhite’s school activities have included: Volunteer with the Battlefield High School Orchestras; School Board Appointee Social Studies Textbook Adoption Committee (2010-2011); Advisory Council at Gravely Elementary School (2008-2010); Planning Committee Member for the 5th Grade Luau at Gravely Elementary School (2010); Chaperoned Orchestra and Band Field Trips at Bull Run Middle School; Parent Volunteer with the Battlefield High School Marching Band (2004-2006); Coordinator for the 5th Grade Luau at Mountain View Elementary (2005); Served on the Respectful Schools Committee at Bull Run Middle School (2004-2005); Coordinator of the Tyler Elementary School Silent Auction (Spring 1998); Room Mom in Four Elementary Schools. Together, Alyson and Doug Satterwhite also serve on the Parent’s Council at Virginia Wesleyan College (2008-Present).
