June 18 to be a Full Day

Because PWCS screwed up in determining whether we needed to make up time for the snow day and did not apply for a waiver by the deadline set by the VA DOE, June 18 will now be a full instructional day.

June 18 is the last day of the school year.  Some elementary schools and all middle and high schools dismiss their students early on the last day.  Because of the need to make up instructional time, elementary schools will not be dismissing early on June 18.

Here is the press release.

Gotta love that great planning there PWCS (that was sarcasm in case ya didn’t know)!

PWCS says that the 18th was NEVER a half day, and that elementary schools jumped the gun by announcing it was. Well, in the employee newsletter The Communicator, the county announced that the 18th was a half day. What bunch of liars.

The last day of the year has always been a half day – at least as long as my kids have been in the schools.

If a full last day has always been included in the calculation to get to 990 hours mandated by the state, then has PWCS been non-complaint for these many years? Have our kids been short changed each and every year of that additional 3 hours of instructional time?

Those sound like pertinent questions to me.
