PWCS Rank in State Declining

The rate at which students in PWC schools pass the SOL in 3rd and 4th grade is generally unchanged overall since TERC Investigations was mandated countywide.  However, just looking at rates achieved in PWC doesn’t present a full picture.

Whilst pass rates are generally unchanged in PWCS, they have increased in other districts.  As a result, PWC’s rank relative to the other districts in the state has fallen.

PWCS’ state rank for pass rates for Grade 3 has fallen from the 83rd to the 47th percentile (bottom half) since 2005.  For Grade 4, despite increasing pass rates, PWCS’ state rank has fallen from the 71st to the 67th percentile.

Those declines have not been noted in Grade 5.  PWCS’ state rank for Grade 5 pass rates have increased from the 66th to the 76th percentile since 2005.

The detailed state rank tables and charts can be found here.

Grade 3 PWCS students’ advanced rates have tanked from 83rd to the 55th percentile in the state. This is unacceptable as well & the School Board should be reining in the Superintendent & staff! http://www2.insidenova.com/isn/news/opinion/letters_to_the_editor/article/letter_celebrating_mediocrity/50611/
