According to the DC Examiner, Congress and the White House found a way to compromise and continue funding for the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program. The program, which is tremendously popular and had over 1,200 applicants this year, allows children to apply for and receive vouchers that can be used to pay for private schooling. The vouchers are less than DC”s published cost per pupil, so the program is both cost effective and it actually works. Over 91% of participants in the program graduate from high school.
When it comes to helping children in failing schools, the DC Opportunity Scholarship Program is one that has demonstrated success. Thank goodness a way was found to save it. Under the agreement reached with Congress, funding to the program has been restored and the cap on enrollment has been eliminated.
